Nashville Cares v. Tennessee Department of Health
Executive Summary
Nashville CARES, through its attorneys at the Tennessee Justice Center, filed suit against the Department of Health concerning verification of citizenship or immigration status for participation in two key safety net programs that help individuals with HIV/AIDS.

UPDATE AS OF 5PM CT ON OCTOBER 23RD, 2026:

The Court has entered a Temporary Restraining Order that restricts verification of citizenship or immigration status for these programs. A temporary injunction hearing is set for November 4th. The hearing will determine whether the restrictions in the Temporary Restraining Order continue until the case is resolved.
