SUMMER EBT
Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (Summer EBT), also known as SUN Bucks, is a federal program that helps low-income families buy groceries while school is out for the summer. The program serves approximately 700,000 Tennessee children, helping families afford healthy food when school meals aren't available.
WHERE THINGS STAND

On April 16, 2026, the Tennessee General Assembly approved $7 million to bring Summer EBT back in 2027, which is a huge win for families. After two summers without this benefit, families will now receive extra support buying food for their children when school lets out next summer. TJC will continue to advocate for Summer EBT/SUN Bucks to be a permanent support to Tennessee families and work to ensure no child is hungry in the summer.​

In partnership with the Southern Economic Advancement Project (SEAP), TJC created county fact sheets showing how Summer EBT can reduce childhood hunger, support local grocery stores, and strengthen local economies across all 95 Tennessee counties.

RESOURCES FOR SUMMER MEALS​
​
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides free, nutritious meals and snacks to children (ages 18 and under) during June, July and August when school is not in session. This federally funded nutrition program helps fill the nutrition gap for children and families who depend on school meals during the school year.
