TAKE ACTION
Protect Tennesseans against harmful policies that will make it harder to access basic necessities, and help us advocate for legislation at the local, state, and federal level that safeguards access to healthcare coverage and nutrition.
The Fallout of HR 1
In July 2025, Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) or H.R. 1, which inflicted unprecedented cuts to the health care and SNAP programs. Thousands of Tennessee families and children have already lost health coverage or food aid. Many more will feel the impact as different parts of the bill take effect over the next year.
As H.R. 1 is being implemented and its effects measured, join TJC to keep up with changes to healthcare and food assistance. Check out the resources below to learn about the bill's harmful impacts and to stay engaged in the work to protect these programs

Bring Summer EBT to food insecure families in Tennessee!
Great News! Tennessee lawmakers want to bring Summer EBT back to Tennessee. Representative Michael Hale and Senator Paul Bailey have filed a bill HB1835/SB1911 that would require Tennessee to opt into Summer EBT every year the program is available.
Last summer, Governor Lee and DHS blocked Summer EBT from reaching over 700,000 Tennessee children. The Summer EBT program provides food for eligible children in the summertime. The modest benefit— $120 per child— goes a long way to help families afford food for their children while school is out.
Ask your state legislator to support this legislation by sending the pre-written letter below:
Check out the following resources to learn about this bill and how it would impact each county in Tennessee.
As of 3/30/2026: HB1835/SB1911 passed unanimously in House Health Subcommittee, House Health Committee, and Senate Health Committee. HB1835/SB1911 now faces the Senate and House Finance Committees where the bill awaits the decision on if it will be funded.

Protect Affordable Health Coverage in TN
On January 1st, 2026, over 643,000 Tennesseans lost the Enhanced Premium Tax Credits that made health coverage affordable through the ACA Marketplace. Congress failed to extend those tax credits when they expired December 31st. Most Tennessee families with ACA coverage have seen their premiums more than double in 2026.
If healthcare affordability is important to you, contact your Senators and Representatives to ask how they are addressing this important issue that affects all Tennesseans!
