Dr. Susanne Tropez-Sims
Throughout a distinguished medical career in Louisiana and Tennessee, Dr. Susanne Tropez-Sims has served children and families as a pediatrician, public health official, professor, researcher, and academic leader. In all these roles, she has been a passionate, thoughtful, and creative advocate for children. Seeing firsthand the ways in which public policy shapes children’s health and lives, she has trained a generation of Meharry doctors to be advocates for their patients and communities, modeling that role in her own career. TJC has been honored to work with Dr. Tropez-Sims since not long after she joined Meharry as Chair of Pediatrics in 1997. She has supported TJC’s efforts to compel TennCare and its managed care contractors to comply with federal pediatric care standards. Dr. Tropez-Sims was the first physician to join TJC’s Insure Our Kids campaign, which mobilized resources across the state to connect children to health coverage.
Despite her extensive professional obligations, she has played an active role on TJC’s Board of Directors since 2021 and has strengthened TJC’s collaboration with Meharry. She has received numerous honors and awards from the American Academy of Pediatrics, communities in which she worked, and Meharry. TJC is grateful and proud to recognize her work in advancing our shared vision of a healthier future for all of Tennessee’s children.
