David Esquivel
David Esquivel has served the Tennessee Justice Center as a dedicated volunteer over two decades. David is the Pro Bono Member of the law firm of Bass, Berry & Sims, leading significant pro bono litigation and managing the firm’s overall pro bono efforts. David’s leadership of those efforts has made Bass a powerful resource for TJC and other community organizations working in the public interest.
David served on TJC’s board since 2006 and as the board’s chair from 2009-2011. He also served as Chair of Development until leaving the board in 2015. In these roles, David helped steer the organization through a turbulent period when TJC was under sustained political attack and financial strain. He served as an effective fundraiser, rallying Tennessee law firms to support TJC financially.
David’s volunteer efforts on behalf of TJC have been only part of his wide-ranging community leadership. He successfully represented victims of human rights abuses in a landmark case holding a former senior El Salvador military official liable for crimes against humanity. He has chaired multiple nonprofit boards, and under his leadership his firm has been nationally recognized for its pro bono community service. He has chaired the Tennessee Bar Association’s Access to Justice Committee and served on the Tennessee Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission. TJC is grateful be part of David’s tireless efforts to build a more just and inclusive community.
