PROGRAMS WE ADVOCATE FOR
HEALTHCARE
Access to health care can be life-changing, but understanding and navigating public benefits programs is often complicated. TJC helps Tennesseans access coverage, resolve problems with benefits, and advocates for policies that strengthen these essential programs. Our work focuses on TennCare, CoverKids, Medicare Savings Programs, and TennCare Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS), which help children, families, older adults, and people with disabilities access health care and supportive services.

ANTI-HUNGER
Access to nutritious food is essential to health and well-being, yet many Tennesseans struggle to afford groceries and healthy meals. TJC helps individuals and families access nutrition assistance programs, resolve benefit issues, and advocates for policies that reduce hunger across our state. Our work focuses on SNAP, WIC, Summer EBT, and Free School Meals, programs that help children, families, older adults, and working households put food on the table and stay healthy.
FAMILIES FIRST (TANF)
Families First provides temporary supports for low income Tennessee families. These supports include cash assistance, transportation, child care assistance, educational supports, job training, employment activities, and other support services. By supporting the initiatives of Families First, TJC reinforces its commitment to prioritizing the well-being and advancement of families in Tennessee.
COURT REFORM
The vast majority of people who are sued or evicted do not have a lawyer. They are unsure what they have to do or how to defend themselves in court. TJC believes that the General Sessions court can be improved so that people who are sued or evicted and do not have a lawyer can still get a fair hearing. The General Sessions GPS Project is all about making our courts more accessible for people who don’t have a lawyer.
