“Thank god for that coverage!” Darita Lyle’s brother, Mark, was in a car crash and suffered a brain injury that required him to live in a nursing/rehab facility. He was uninsured, and the facility told Darita they had 30 days to get insurance, or he would be placed in her care. “He was a vegetable; I couldn’t take care of him.” Mark was able to receive coverage through TennCare and stay in the facility. Sadly, Mark eventually developed cancer and passed away this July. Without the financial means to support his care, Darita says “he would have died a lot sooner,” and she would be in massive medical debt.
