In the second zone of waiting areas, Chasity was spending her Saturday getting much needed healthcare through St. Thomas’s Medical Mission at Home. This annual event allows folks who otherwise wouldn’t have access to care to receive resources they desperately need.
Chasity has experienced a lot of different medical issues and has been battling to get onto disability: “I am still trying to figure out my stuff and I can’t get help. It’s a struggle.” Chasity has found her medical experience to be mostly bad, as doctors have dismissed her regularly. She is a young black woman and has found that that deeply affects the quality of her care: “They don’t care to hear my problems; I don’t get heard.”
Chasity has also struggled to be heard by TennCare. She says that her renewal forms were sent to the wrong address and instead of receiving any calls or warnings, her care was cut off. This part of her story is unfortunately not unique, as hundreds of Tennesseans have gone through the same situation. Whether it's an old or simply wrong address, their care is simply cut off. No matter the case, due to this, she can’t pay for her medical care due to her disabilities. She feels that she has been left at a total loss.
