LEGACY & STOCK GIFTS
Plan a Legacy Gift Today
Leave a lasting impact by planning a legacy gift for Tennessee Justice Center today. Your gift will make a difference for generations to come, helping TJC fight for policies that honor the dignity of and support opportunity for all of our neighbors. With your support, we will work to ensure that Tennessee is a state that honors our shared values, where all Tennesseans, regardless of income, race, disability, age, or illness have access to care and necessities they need to live full, independent lives and avoid financial ruin.
Legacy gifts are a critical way to support TJC’s mission, and have the following benefits:
- Your gift will ensure your lasting, life-changing impact for thousands of Tennesseans.
- Your gift may cost nothing at all during your lifetime, and allow you to give more to the work you love.
- You will join a growing list of forward-thinking supporters who value justice, dignity, and opportunity for the next generation of Tennesseans.
- Your name will be listed on our legacy wall in TJC’s office, and your planned gift will qualify you for the Iris Society. Iris Society membership gives you access to exclusive communications and events and will be recognized in communications such as annual reports and our website.

LEGACY & STOCK GIFT OPTIONS
Making a bequest is simple and straightforward. Let your advisor know your wishes and they will put the appropriate language in your will. If you already have a will, there is no need to rewrite it to include TJC. Your attorney can add a bequest through a simple codicil.
These are various bequest options and suggested language that might be helpful to you and your advisor:
You can take care of your loved ones first, then leave all, or a percentage, of the remainder of your estate to TJC.
I give and bequeath to the Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) all (or state a percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal.
State your intention by leaving a specific amount (or the specific percentage of your total estate) to TJC.
I give and bequeath to the Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) the sum of $______.
I give and bequeath to the Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) ___ percent of my estate.
Make your gift to TJC contingent on other conditions being met, such as having a loved one predecease you.
If (insert name) is not living at the time of my demise, I give and bequeath to the Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) the sum of $______.
Or you may say “all of my estate” or “__ percent of the remainder of my estate.”
Your retirement plan such as an IRA can be a simple, tax-wise way to make a charitable gift. Often, such plans are taxed both as part of your estate and as income for the recipient, meaning that the amount left to your loved ones will be taxed twice. By designating a charity like TJC as recipient, there is no tax, so the full value of your retirement plan goes to doing the work you value. Designate the Tennessee Justice Center as your beneficiary today by filling out or updating a beneficiary form with your plan. These forms are usually readily available from your plan administrator and easy to complete. TJC’s address and tax ID number for your form is: Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417).
If your fully-paid life insurance policy is no longer needed to provide security for grown children or other loved ones, you could make the Tennessee Justice Center a beneficiary of all or part of your funds. This entitles you to a current income tax deduction.
If an ongoing tax deduction is attractive to you, consider purchasing a new life insurance policy (or converting an existing, in-process policy) and giving it to TJC with our organization as the designated beneficiary. Your ongoing premium payments are then tax-deductible, and you receive an additional income tax deduction at the time of the gift.
Consult your attorney or insurance agent to designate the Tennessee Justice Center (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) as a sole or shared beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
Stock gifts are a particularly effective way to support TJC, either now or as a planned gift. If you own stock or other securities that have appreciated since you acquired them, you may face capital gains taxes when you sell them. Donating that stock to the Tennessee Justice Center might be a wise decision for you because:
- Neither you nor TJC (a non-profit organization) would pay capital gains tax, meaning that TJC receives the full value of your stock;
- You can receive a charitable deduction for the full market value of your gift;
- You make a substantial contribution, possibly of more value than a cash donation, that furthers our work in advocating for families in need.
