Stock gifts are a particularly effective way to support TJC. If you own stock or other securities that have appreciated since you acquired them, you may face capital gains taxes when you sell them. Donating that stock to the Tennessee Justice Center might be a wise decision for you because:
- Neither you nor TJC (a non-profit organization) would pay capital gains tax, meaning that TJC receives the full value of your stock;
- You can receive a charitable deduction for the full market value of your gift;
- You make a substantial contribution, possibly of more value than a cash donation, that furthers our work in advocating for families in need.
For more information on transferring stock to the Tennessee Justice Center, contact John Orzechowski at (615) 255-0331 or email@example.com.
Making a bequest is simple and straightforward. Let your advisor know your wishes and they will put the appropriate language in your will. If you already have a will, there is no need to rewrite it to include TJC; your attorney can add a bequest through a simple codicil.
These are various bequest options and suggested language that might be helpful to you and your advisor:
You can take care of your loved ones first, then leave all, or a percentage, of the remainder of your estate to TJC.
I give and bequeath to the Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) all (or state a percentage) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal.
State your intention by leaving a specific amount (or the specific percentage of your total estate) to TJC.
I give and bequeath to the Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) the sum of $______.
I give and bequeath to the Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) ___ percent of my estate.
Make your gift to TJC contingent on other conditions being met, such as having a loved one predecease you.
If (insert name) is not living at the time of my demise, I give and bequeath to the Tennessee Justice Center, Inc., 211 7th Ave N #100, Nashville, TN 37219 (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) the sum of $______.
Or you may say “all of my estate” or “__ percent of the remainder of my estate.”
Thank you so much for joining the group of TJC friends who have made planned gifts to ensure the continued work of TJC in advocating for the rights of families in need. The entire TJC family is extremely grateful for your generosity and commitment. For our records and so that we may properly acknowledge your gift, please let us know! Contact John Orzechowski at firstname.lastname@example.org or 615-255-0331.
Thank you again for your support.
If your fully-paid life insurance policy is no longer needed to provide security for grown children or other loved ones, you could make the Tennessee Justice Center a beneficiary of all or part of your funds. This entitles you to a current income tax deduction.
If an ongoing tax deduction is attractive to you, consider purchasing a new life insurance policy (or converting an existing, in-process policy) and giving it to TJC with our organization as the designated beneficiary. Your ongoing premium payments are then tax-deductible, and you receive an additional income tax deduction at the time of the gift.
Consult your attorney or insurance agent to designate the Tennessee Justice Center (Federal Tax ID Number 62-1630417) as a sole or shared beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
