Jennifer Tlumak Paralegal and Client Advocate
Jennifer Tlumak, a Nashville native, attended Metro public schools and received a B.A. in history with honors from Dartmouth College in 2001. She joyfully returned home in the fall of 2005 after mind-opening stints in seven states for college and work. She joined TJC in June 2006. Jennifer’s passion for environmental issues has led her to work as an analyst for the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office in Washington, DC, intern at the Solar Living Center in northern California, and lead the media effort to protect Minnesota wild rice from patenting and genetic engineering as staff at Winona LaDuke’s White Earth Land Recovery Project. She has also been active with local environmental organizations, including the Community Home Energy Audit Project, which promotes renewable energy and energy efficiency through public education. Her latest projects include “greening” the TJC office by implementing a composting system and increased use of double sided copying. For Jennifer, TJC is an opportunity to use her analytical and “people” skills to advocate for poor Tennesseans and reform current policies that disproportionately harm vulnerable populations. “I am thrilled to lend my energy to TJC. It’s the best of all worlds: intelligent, compassionate colleagues, a shared commitment to create concrete, positive social change, wonderful clients, a well-respected, time-tested organization, and an eight-minute commute on my bike!” Outside work, Jennifer enjoys singing with Nashville in Harmony, contra dancing, playing ultimate Frisbee, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. She recently completed the Climate Project training, education she will use to lead presentations about the perils of global warming. |
