TAKE ACTION

Protect Tennesseans against harmful policies that will make it harder to access basic necessities, and help us advocate for legislation at the local, state, and federal level that safeguards access to healthcare coverage and nutrition.

The Fallout of HR 1

In July 2025, Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) or H.R. 1, which inflicted unprecedented cuts to the health care and SNAP programs. Thousands of Tennessee families and children have already lost health coverage or food aid.  Many more will feel the impact as different parts of the bill take effect over the next year.

As H.R. 1 is being implemented and its effects measured, join TJC to keep up with changes to healthcare and food assistance. Check out the resources below to learn about the bill's harmful impacts and to stay engaged in the work to protect these programs

Bring Summer EBT to Food Insecure Families in Tennessee!

On April 16, 2026 the Tennessee General Assembly allocated $7 million for the return of Summer EBT (S-EBT) in the 2027 budget, falling short of passing the bill to make S-EBT permanent.

S-EBT is a program that provides money to support 700,000 children and their families to buy groceries during the summer when hunger spikes. After over a year of public outcry from parents, faith leaders, county mayors, and non-profit organizations, the state has acted to support families next summer (2027) but stopped short of passing the legislation to make S-EBT permanent and does not provide S-EBT for families this summer in 2026. The budget awaits a final sign-off from the Governor.

If lawmakers agree summer hunger is real, why not act now for 2026?

Contact elected officials today and urge them to take immediate action to bring Summer EBT to Tennessee families this summer.

In partnership with the Southern Economic Advancement Project (SEAP), TJC created county fact sheets to show how Summer EBT can help alleviate hunger and boost the economy in all 95 counties across the state!
