Project Description

INTERN |  VOLUNTEER  | WORK

JOIN OUR TEAM

We have been blessed by amazing staff, volunteers, and interns at TJC.  We have attracted driven and compassionate individuals who bring great ideas, hard work, and a willingness to dive right in!

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

Assist the advocacy team in its efforts to improve access to healthcare coverage for all Tennesseans. The intern will engage with organizations and individuals both at the grassroots and grasstops levels to educate and reach relevant stakeholders in the health policy landscape.

  • Assisting in the preparation of community training and events (press conferences, public forums, etc.);
  • Participating in grassroots organizing and lobbying (promoting sign-on letters, asking community members to write letters, etc.);
  • Managing TJC’s social media platforms (posting facts on Facebook, and re-tweeting content from our national partners, etc.).

For any student who wants to understand how communities can hold their government accountable and learn more about healthcare policy, this is the internship of a lifetime.

The Development Intern will work under TJC’s Executive Director and will assist with the various development and fundraising projects.  In particular, the intern will play a key role in TJC’s two largest fundraising initiatives, The Mother of the Year Campaign and the Year End Mailing.

Other responsibilities will include corresponding with donors, managing TJC’s donor database, grant research, coordinated campaign management, event planning, and creating fundraising materials. This is a terrific opportunity for an undergraduate student or recent graduate who is interested in pursuing a career in non-profit management, communications, or organizational development.

Casework interns provide direct assistance to TJC’s Casework Team as they respond to the needs of individual clients.  Responsibilities include fielding calls from clients, drafting documents, performing intake interviews, and learning a ton about health and nutrition policy.

This is an ideal position for an undergraduate student or recent graduate who is interested in law school and wanting to gain experience in a non-profit setting.  Depending on the availability, the intern may also have the opportunity to work their own case under the supervision of one of TJC’s advocates or attorneys.

A significant part of our work involves outreach to community members, health care advocates, and TJC supporters. We are looking for someone to help make our outreach, web, and fundraising materials more attractive and easier to read.

The Graphic Design and Social Media Intern with work directly with TJC’s Creative Director.  Duties could include designing and developing graphics and multimedia material for TJC online and printed media, creating infographics and illustrations to be included in web and printed material distributions, assisting and advising TJC staff on creating graphics for individual projects, designing and editing marketing material such as brochures, flyers, advertisements, and posters.  The intern with be responsible for various aspects of TJC’s social media presence.  This could include drafting posts, coordinating social media outreach schedules with staff members, and responding to a variety of inquiries about TJC’s mission and work receiving via social media.

The position requires a weekly commitment of at least 30 hours/ week for 10-12 weeks. Internship projects may include the review of the electronic documentary evidence, internet research projects with a legal or public policy focus, and client intake.

The goal of the Legal Internship is that the student will eventually have the opportunity to work with clients on individual cases and appeals under the supervision of TJC’s staff attorneys.  The internship is unpaid, but, TJC will happily work with your institution to award you credit for your internship hours, if applicable.

TJC attorneys are rarely actually in the courtroom, and the opportunity to observe court proceedings is likely but not guaranteed.  What is guaranteed is the opportunity to work alongside nationally-recognized non-profit attorneys and a dedicated staff to help bring about positive change for low-income Tennesseans.

The successful candidate will be a “self starter,” with little need for supervision, interested in experiencing non-profit legal/ advocacy work from the inside.  Ideally, the candidate would be motivated by a commitment to “equal justice for all,” understanding that getting there entails its fair share of tedious, yet vitally important, work.

Help us connect with donors, clients, volunteers, and supporters through Twitter and other social media platforms. This is a great opportunity for people who are naturals at social media but want to learn about how to use it in a business setting. Just a small amount of time each week could make a huge difference.

Are you fluent in Spanish and English? Help us better serve the Spanish-speaking population in Tennessee. Tasks may include translation of documents and materials, intake interviews with potential clients, and outreach.

We are looking for passionate and capable volunteers to join our Development Committee. The Development Committee meets on the first Thursday of every other month. The Committee helps engage our board and the community around fundraising tasks and events such as our Raising the Bar firm pledge program, Mother’s Day campaign, and year-end giving.

This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute your ideas to TJC, and meet our board members. Many previous Development Committee board members have moved onto our Board of Directors as well. If you have experience in Fundraising, Marketing, Event Planning, Corporate Giving, Graphic Design, or related areas it is a plus.

We host several exciting fundraising campaigns during the year. During fundraising campaigns, we often need help with short-term tasks such as helping address envelopes, sorting data, and calling donors.

If you are interested in helping on a short-term project, please let us know your availability and any tasks that might interest you. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to help, but can only commit a few days out of the year.

We are not currently accepting applications.

DON’T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT…
