For Immediate Release
Michele Johnson, Executive Director of the Tennessee Justice Center, said the following regarding the opening of the federal comment period for Tennessee’s Medicaid block grant proposal on November 27, 2019 that will be open until December 27, 2019:
The federal comment period is the last, crucial opportunity to oppose the state’s dangerous Medicaid block grant. By opening the comment period one day before Thanksgiving and setting the deadline two days after Christmas, they probably think they’ll keep Tennesseans from voicing their opposition, but they’re wrong. The block grant discriminates against the sickest patients, creates incentives to cut TennCare and divert funding to other parts of the budget, and puts our already shaky healthcare infrastructure at further risk. The block grant is a political gimmick, not a serious answer to Tennesseans’ real health concerns. It’s critical that people submit their comments now in order to “Stop the Block!”
