Emily Einstein Client Advocate
Concern for social justice is at the core of Emily’s identity. Much of her childhood in the DC area was spent volunteering at day care facilities for the elderly and homeless shelters. After graduating from Davidson College with a BA in Religion, Emily pursued an M.Div. at Vanderbilt where her eyes were opened further to systemic issues of violence and oppression. Her internship at Magdalene—a nonprofit organization that rehabilitates women with histories of prostitution, prison time, and addiction—showed her the harsh realities of many Nashville’s women’s lives. After spending a few months at Drew University in New Jersey exploring doctoral work, Emily returned to her spiritual home, Nashville. She hopes to apply some of what she has learned in school to help improve people’s lives in any small way that she can. Emily is excited about the chance to work at TJC because it means she can use her writing and analytical skills to promote social justice. Plus, Emily relishes the opportunity to work with people equally committed to justice issues. She believes that, “there is something seriously flawed with a system that allows those with lots of money access to health care while millions of hard-working Americans have to go without because they can’t afford it.” In her spare time, Emily is an avid cook, enjoys reading theology, and takes long hikes/walks when the weather allows. |
